| This paper provides an elaborate mathematical model for the association of the flow of blood in arteries, WBCs, cytokines, and nanoparticles in regulating vascular inflammation. What makes this research stand out is the integration of hemodynamics, transport in immunology, and physical attributes of nanoparticles into a computational model used for treating cardiovascular diseases. The study adopts COMSOL Multiphysics platform in investigating the effect of nanoparticles on the functions of the immune system through reaction-convection-diffusion equations. This model clarifies the role of particles in interactions with cytokines and WBCs, thus improving the efficacy of the delivery process of nanoparticles to the region of inflammation. Results showed that magnetically activated particles significantly increased WBCs’ reaction at inflamed sites. On the other hand, SWCNT particles were characterized by higher thermal conductivity but failed to cause any change in chemotactic reactions. This aspect is particularly crucial when designing new precision medicine approaches to manage inflammatory-related cardiovascular disease, such as atherosclerosis. The proposed computational method has successfully contributed to solving the knowledge gap that exists while offering a strong framework for future work in this regard. |
