Abstract
Medical skills are the golden treasure for any well-qualified doctor. These medical skills are acquired during the years of studying in the faculty of medicine and are increased, improved, and well-formatted by the training and work throughout the doctor. Medical skills acquisition and assessment are located at the top of the goals and targets of medical education for all faculties of medicine. Global assessment of final year students skills is mandatory and should be multiple, regular, and global outside the scope of the traditional exams of certain topics. Through a self-tailored questionnaire formed of 35 questions in 3 sectors, final year students of the faculty of medicine, Sohag University, were targeted to evaluate their medical skills. A 100-point score was distributed on the 35 questions. 80 students (13%) of the total 600 students targeted answered the evaluation, 67.5% males and 32.5% females, with a median score of 77/100 and a range of 30-97. The low response to answering the questionnaire, which was available for them online for 4 months is reflects the general attitude of this batch and supports the opinion of many staff members in different departments about their being undisciplined and least committed to attending lectures and practical lessons compared to all previous batches. Medical skills evaluation of the medical students, especially in the final years, is a mandatory process and should be regularly investigated in a wider scope than that of the focal targeted traditional exams.
