This study investigates the role of dialogic communication in digital public relations on official Saudi websites in raising public awareness of global sustainable development issues. It focuses on how these issues are presented and how dialogic communication principles are applied on the websites of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and the Ministry of Health.
Adopting a descriptive approach, the study combines social network analysis and content analysis, alongside survey methods. Data were collected over a three-month period using the artificial week method, from August 5 to November 2, 2023.
The findings reveal that both websites addressed six out of the seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), indicating significant institutional engagement with the global development agenda. The issues presented showed notable interconnection, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s coordinated efforts to achieve the SDGs under Vision 2030.
Analysis also confirmed the application of several dialogic communication principles, including the facilitation of discussions, provision of informative content, visitor retention, user-friendly design, and encouraging return visits. These elements demonstrate a strategic governmental effort to enhance the quality and interactivity of official digital platforms.
The study concludes by recommending greater attention to underrepresented SDGs across all governmental websites. It emphasizes the importance of fostering public understanding of these goals and their societal impact, encouraging active citizen participation in achieving sustainable development.
