The virus caused great global losses in all aspects, as well as a loss of human lives,
while the world witnessed a remarkable decline in all economic and social indicators.
This contributed to the increase in governments spending on precautionary
operations. Therefore, this study aims to highlight the impact of the current epidemic
crisis compared to the impact of previous crises from the perspective of social
observatories. The purpose is to track and monitor community movement and
analyze it based on early social warning systems such as economic growth, global
demand, travel and trade between countries, besides monitor the impact of the
pandemic on tourism and air transport.
The scenarios by most important global observatories, the predictive estimates of the
repercussions that accompanied the suspension of international flights on the
tourism sector are discussed. The losses that resulted from it due to the decline in the
number of tourists of 60% to 80% in the year 2020, affected the air transport sector
with a decrease of -35%. This led to an estimated loss of $ 400 billion where 4.8
million jobs have been laid off, approximately 43% of the sectors jobs disappeared.
The Middle East and Africa region also recorded a decline of 75%, the Americas 69%
and Europe 70%. It is expected that 2.4 billion aircraft passengers will register in
2021, compared to 1.8 billion in 2020, compared to 4.5 billion which was in 2019.
The recommendation emphasises the necessity of specific measures to reduce the
