Abstract
University libraries are among the facilities that play a prominent role in improving the university level on one hand and in promoting the development of scientific research on the other hand depending on the developments that were noticeable mainly in its functions and roles. These technological quick developments lead to a continued change in the programs and services of university libraries and consequently to the development of curricula; therefore, a bench of new contemporary trends emerged to be acquainted with the digital era, including electronic libraries. Of course, these would bring new areas of research to promote the development of digital libraries that would practically replace traditional ones. Hence, it would become forcibly an obligation to cope with the different changes in restoring information, retrieving it and even in documenting through using the latest methods to ensure accuracy and rapidity in getting relevant information. On this basis, this study targets to examine the effective contributions of the applications of electronic libraries in universities as educational institutions and their impact on traditional libraries.
