This paper reports the decomposition of oxalic acid by TiO2(amm) synthesized by a simple precipitation method through changing the pH of peroxotitanium (IV) complex (HOO-Ti(OH)3) by the addition of NH4OH. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was performed to select the starting calcination temperatures of the precipitate formed. The characteristics and photocatalytic efficiency of TiO2(amm) photocatalyst was compared with TiO2(HP) obtained by aging the peroxotitanium (iv) complex in water and calcinations of the precipitate formed at the same temperatures. Different TiO2 photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive x-rays spectroscopy (EDX). TiO2(amm) showed higher efficiency than TiO2(HP) for the photocatalytic decomposition of oxalic acid. Both photocatalysts showed higher efficiency under UV light irradiation than under sunlight. |
