Abstract
The objective of this paper is to introduce a quantitative measure of dynamical complexity of a multispecies ecosystem and to present mathematical characterization of different dynamical behaviors of the ecosystems around the steady-state of the ecosystem. The dynamical complexity based on the local form of generalized Lyapunov-function provides a critical analysis of the dynamical concepts of stability, instability, periodicity and bifurcation, limit-cycle etc. with some illustrative model ecosystems.
